…vagina!!! Legit, that’s what I thought when the ultrasound technician said to look at our baby’s parts and emphasized that there was no penis. My mind went back to the time I first watched Kindergarten Cop with Arnold Schwarzenegger — “Boys have a penis and girls have a vagina.”

But in all seriousness, we’re expecting a healthy baby! D and I would have been happy with either outcome. We’re simply excited to meet, love (a.k.a. smother), and take care of our Lil Bean.

And though society will exclaim, “Oh, it’s a girl!” and thus pile on mountains of gender stereotypes, let us be the first to say… We may call Lil Bean a “she”. We may refer to them as a girl. But if one day Lil Bean decides that she is not a she, then we will respect and love them just the same.

Because in this house, love is love is love is love is love.
